Energy crisis

The crude oil refinery for India's farm residue: CBG, Hydrogen and more.

Farm residue is India's biggest idle fuel supply. HyBurn designs the biorefinery that turns it into compressed biogas, biochar and fertiliser, and licenses it to partners who build and run it.

One HyBurn module: residue in, heat shared, CBG and biochar out

The idea

Crude oil has refineries. Farm residue has never had one.

One barrel of crude becomes many fuels. One pile of residue now becomes many products, and each one pays.

The problem

India's CBG programme is stuck on conversion, not demand.

Slow digestion

Raw residue digested at mesophilic temperatures (35–40 °C) needs 40–60 days of hydraulic retention.

Hard feedstock

Lignocellulose in straw, stalk and husk converts poorly, so plants lock onto one easy feedstock.

Idle plants

Oil companies issued the letters of intent. The plants that were built often run half empty.

The biorefinery

Surplus kiln heat opens the residue. A hot digester finishes the job.

The pyrolysis kiln makes biochar and gives off heat beyond its own needs. We put that surplus to work twice: on feedstock pretreatment, and on thermophilic digestion.

Residue

Straw, stalk, husk and mixed farm waste.

Pyrolysis kiln

Makes biochar. Heat beyond its own needs goes to the gas line.

Feedstock pretreatment

Heat opens the lignocellulose before it enters the digester.

Thermophilic digester

Runs hot, so digestion is faster and takes more feedstock types.

From the kiln

Biochar, wood vinegar and bio-oil, the path to SAF.

From the digester

Compressed biogas, plus digestate that becomes fertiliser with biochar.

Revenue pools

One pile of residue, six products.

  • CBG

Higher yield and shorter digestion from the pretreated, thermophilic digester.

    Core
  • Biochar

Dense, dry carbon. Storable, movable and sold to farms and industry.

    Core
  • Fertiliser

Biochar plus digestate, as granules and pellets. Organic and inorganic blends.

    Core
  • Wood vinegar

Condensed from the kiln vapour. A crop-care input.

    Co-product
  • Bio-oil to SAF

An upgrading path for sustainable aviation fuel, with a partner refiner or lab.

    Partner needed
  • Surplus heat

Used first for pretreatment and digestion, then on other duty.

    Co-product

The result

35–45% more biogas, digestion 40–50% faster.

Pretreatment and thermophilic digestion lift biogas yield and cut digestion time, compared with the same residue digested cold at mesophilic temperatures.

Verified numbers

Our goal

20% of India's CBG capacity in three years.

Each dot is 50 plants, out of the 5,000 the government is targeting.

4.8 MMT

From 1 September 2026 the GOBARdhan scheme sets an administered CBG price of ₹2,110 per MMBtu, with a minimum ten-year pricing framework. Targets are from MoPNG. There is no government biochar target, so the biochar figure follows our module ratio.

Business model

We keep the design. Partners build and run.

Joint ventures at the residue

A plant at the point of residue, with the local partner who controls feedstock. Shared economics on biochar, CBG and fertiliser.

Technology licensing

Licences to equipment makers and regional partners, with a fee based on what each plant produces. HyBurn carries no fabrication capital.

HyBurn keeps the design

IP, process know-how and performance guarantees stay with HyBurn. Fabrication is outsourced.

This entire process is carbon negative. Carbon credit revenue is additional and not included in our plant economics.

Second stream · Hydrogen

A stove where the flame is the product.

Our hydrogen stove makes hydrogen-rich gas at the point of use and burns it on the spot. Nothing is bottled or shipped. Patent filed.

  1. Steam cracks on a packed carbon bed.
  2. Hydrogen and CO burn immediately above a cold ejector.
  3. The product is the flame, not a bottled molecule.

Hydrogen for industry

Resistive allothermal hydrogen generator.

Industry needs gas it can use in boilers, process heaters and as feed for ammonia and DME. Our generator passes electric current through the hot coal bed between electrodes. The resistance of the bed itself makes the heat, so no fuel is burned with air and the syngas leaves rich in hydrogen and free of nitrogen.
